Professor Dean’s videos on YouTube have inspired a generation, and his instructional library has taught people around the world the mysteries of jiu jitsu.

Dean’s martial education is well rounded, holding first degree black belts in Kodokan Judo and Aikikai Aikido, a third degree black belt in Japanese Jujutsu, and a 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He continues to be a student of Roy Harris (6th dan), and is recognized as a black belt by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), with affiliated academies around the world.

Professor Dean has written about his adventures in two books,"The Martial Apprentice" and "Becoming the Black Belt." His collaboration with Aikido Journal, producing the titles in the Aikido Journal Academy, has been another successful venture, serving the art of peace by capturing it’s masters in action.

His latest project is a documentary on the jiu jitsu virtuoso Jeff Glover, capturing the lead up to his tenth installment of the Money on the Mat tournament. It will debut at film festivals in 2022 and 2023.

It's his distinct pleasure to be an ambassador for the art of jiu jitsu, and expose others to this lifelong discipline.
